Airs and graces
CUSTOMIZED "GHOST CHAIR" BY KARTEL FOR LIFESTYLE BAZAAR
Reiko Kaneko felt that the “ghost chair” was hardly ghost-like. Playing with the idea of illusion, magic and ghostly convention, Reiko sends a flock of birds flying through the chair seemingly unaware of its presence.
The energy and sense of capturing that moment of birds in flight is in stark contrast to what a chair stands for – inherently to stay put.
The title points to the magical transformation from the chair to air, but also to a time in history, famous for its airs and graces. The time of Louis XV's Bourgeois, which is understood to be the inspiration behind the original chair.
No birds were harmed in its production!
The Exhibition, "Losing the Plot" runs from 19th - 27th September at the Shoreditch Lifestyle store: http://www.lifestylebazaar.com/
More about the exhibition:
Lifestylebazaar, in collaboration with Children With Aids Charity (CWAC), are planning a truly inspiring exhibition for their Shoreditch store during this year’s London Design Festival. Titled ‘Losing the Plot’, eight Louis Ghost chairs designed by Philippe Starck for Kartell will be reinterpreted through the process of customisation by individuals from diverse creative backgrounds.
